Cuba is one of last shining diamonds in the worlds treasury – colourful, nice, ancient, rich-for-images country. Simply walking there, hanging around with the camera brings lots of cool shots – from retro cars to retro locals :), grandmas with huge cigars, mucacos and mucacas, half-ruined palaces, etc.
Cuba is an amazing country full of untouched snow-white beaches, beautiful and positive people, vivid landscapes, and surreal midcentury architecture. It becomes more and more popular to organize your dream destination wedding in Cuba. The possibilities for creating unique wedding images are awesome. I have tonz of ideas for funky and creative wedding photographs, that I would love to realize with couples that are excited by the idea of getting married (or their romantic sessions shot) in a different place.
These couples I am looking for would be doing their best to … er, “work” and create together with me these special images and memories that will last forever.
Here are just some ways to shoot there:
-Romantic candid or portrait session along the beach at sunset or sunrise.
-Rent a retro car; huge amount of styles and colours available, some models came even from 1920s(!).
-Hire a classic carriage ride around the Old Havana, incredibly romantic and interesting.
Images on the the steps of the Capitoli, Havana’s capitol building; simply elegant. Many palaces around, cafeterias, restaurants, hotels in colonial style – all that amaze.
-We also can make beautiful images at the Hotel National, one of Cuba’s oldest and most famous hotels, with fantastic ocean views of a Havana’s inner harbor.
-Candid shots along the Malecon, Havana’s infamous 8 km embankment along the curved downtown bay, gorgeous location for a romantic walk to watch the sunset.
-Photos in the courtyard of a restored museum, full of lush tropical plants, beautiful columns and classic stairwells.
Only a few ways for shooting are shown. Cuba has great possibilities for a photography – not only Havana and Varadero. Useful would be even to buy a tourist guide to Cuba and browse thru to see where one can go and places to have romantic, gothic or classic photography sessions.
Going to Cuba is like taking a trip around the world in perfect weather. You can clamber over the ruins of French coffee plantations. Tour Spanish colonial cities dating back to the 16th century. Luxuriate in European-style spas.
Swing to Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms. Hike through spectacular mountains and forests. Dive on one of the world’s great reefs. And fish where Hemingway did.
And finally – why not hire a local professional photographer?
There are simple answers – Cuba is quite poor country and it is very difficult to get/buy a professional digital SLR camera there. The “professional” local photographers wotk there, live there and your outstanding day is another moment of routine for them, cause they’ve already shot all that for dozens of times. It is boring for them. The so-called photographers , that are offered by a local hotel or tourist company are kind of beginners, they didn’t have enough practice and their photographic skills are very moderate. You can proof all that watching other people’s photos, local photographers had shot.
Cuba is very close to me, I mean I love this country, First time I was there 5 y.o. ! We lived there for 2 yrs. Nowadays Cuba has changed, but we all still have a chance to see and capture it while it lasts…
